Background To Community Empowerment NL

-

Community Empowerment NL is a Challenge Fund for North Lanarkshire Council supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This Fund will contribute to the Communities and Place theme aims:

• Strengthen our social fabric and foster a sense of local pride and belonging, through investment in activities that enhance physical, cultural and social ties and access to amenities, such as community infrastructure and local green space, and community-led projects.

• Build resilient, healthy and safe neighbourhoods, through investment in quality places that people want to live, work, play and learn in, through targeted improvements to the built and natural environment and innovative approaches to crime prevention..

Approved by North Lanarkshire Council's Communities Committee in August 2023, community groups are invited to make an application for funding for specific projects and initiatives to support the delivery of LOIP priorities in the 9 Community Board areas. The fund will be administered as a small grant scheme and will mainly be focused on participatory budgeting approaches to decision making.  As well as adding value in terms of financial resources the fund will support, enhance, and increase engagement with local communities and their role in development and delivery of activity towards achieving key outcomes in relation to agreed priorities.
